Letters: Hillcrest golf safer than other places

This week I played golf at Hillcrest, walked on the river trail, went to City Market and had a lab test done at Mercy.

By far the safest place to be was on the golf course.

Hillcrest, in consultation with San Juan Basin Public Health, has implemented numerous stringent rules to keep people from close contact with each other and to prevent golfers from touching objects others have touched.

In contrast, the river trail was packed, and many people were not wearing masks and making no attempt to stay six feet from each other. Runners and cyclists were huffing by without face masks, spewing aerosols out of their mouths.

At City Market, it was so crowded that it was impossible to stay six feet from other people, and at least one-third of the staff and shoppers weren’t wearing masks.

At the Mercy lab, at least 40% of the patients in the waiting room were not wearing masks and were constantly touching things (chairs, pens, counter tops, etc.) that others had touched.

So please get the true facts before criticizing Hillcrest for opening (“Which idiots opened the golf courses?” Letters April 14). It is an island of safety compared to other public places such as trails, bike paths and grocery stores.
