Dolores River users cautioned near Bedrock

The Colorado Department of Transportation issued caution to those who recreate on the Dolores River near Bedrock that a temporary low bridge south of Bedrock Bridge on Highway 90 will limit river clearance until April 8.

The temporary equipment bridge will allow one to three feet of clearance for river users while in place.

Additionally, river closures will start to occur in mid-April and continue intermittently while construction of the new bridge on Highway 90 is underway.

A full-time flag operator will be stationed seven days a week at the Bedrock boat ramp to answer questions, give directions and inform boaters of the low bridge.

A buoy has been placed on the river, approximately 1,000 feet before the Bedrock boat ramp to warn of potential half-hour closures.

Boaters can park or anchor boats, rafts and kayaks to two white buoys while they wait for the river to reopen.

A rope line of seven orange buoys will be located across the river to indicate a closure. If river users miss the white buoys, they can use the orange rope line to stop themselves.

Once crane operations have concluded and passage under the bridge is safe, the flag operator will reopen the river and allow boaters to pass through the bridge construction zone safely.
