Durango School District 9-R to host first brain expo

Durango School District 9-R will hold the first-annual student brain expo from 5 to 7 p.m. May 17 in the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

Sixth-grade language arts students in Duane Tucker’s class at Escalante Middle School and seventh-grade students in Erica Dey’s class at Miller Middle School will present diverse projects about the human brain, including TED Talks, demonstrations and multimedia presentations.

The event will celebrate the research performed by students about how to increase engagement, enjoyment and empowerment in school and personal life, and how neuroscience informs people about learning, health and wellness. Students will show the importance of not just learning, but learning how to learn, to create healthy and happy climates and cultures.
