Durango announces weed-spraying sites

The city of Durango will continue weed abatement spraying through Aug. 20.

The areas to be sprayed, weather permitting, are: Oxbow Preserve, Bar Ditch around Hillcrest Golf Course, city-owned lots in the 1500 block of Florida Road, city open space in the 500 block of Jenkins Ranch Road and the area between Hillcrest Drive and SkyRidge subdivision, the ditch line along Goeglein Gulch Road, the river access point at 33rd Street and East Third Avenue, Horse Gulch open space east of Raider Ridge and Twin Buttes open space.

The herbicides used are Rodeo, 2-4-D Amine, Confront and Perspective, which are all approved by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Spraying is conducted to improve the quality of the right of ways, parks and open spaces.

Horsemen group to meet Aug. 11

The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at Bayfield Town Hall.

Chiropractor-farrier Dennis O’Brien will give a presentation. O’Brien has written articles for several publications, including American Farriers Journal. He will be covering equine chiropractic issues, dental problems and hoof care.

Quilters to show work at event in Dolores

The Dolores Mountain Quilters Guild’s 2016 Biennial Quilt Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 26 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Dolores Community Center.

The event, a showcase for local quilting artistry, will feature more than 100 quilts judged by the public in six categories.
