Fawning

A mother checks her baby Monday at Durango Fish Hatchery. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has received reports of people feeding and trying to pet deer in the Durango area. For the safety of residents and the deer, observe these animals from a distance. Fawns are a month or less old, and their mothers are extremely protective. They will attack if they feel threatened. Do not allow dogs to chase deer. If you see deer along the bike path, stay as far away as possible. Do not pick up or touch fawns, even if they’re alone they haven’t been abandoned, according to a news release from Joe Lewandowski, public-information officer for Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
