Bayfield High School’s Courtney Bayles and Kylee McCoy, and Ignacio High School’s Shoshone Thompson earned accolades for volleyball when the Colorado High School Activities Association’s All-State teams were revealed Tuesday.
Bayles and McCoy were named to the honorable mention list in Class 3A, and Thompson was an honorable mention in Class 2A.
Bayles and McCoy, both seniors at Bayfield, appeared in every set the Wolverines played this season.
Bayles, the team’s setter, dished out 556 assists on the season and added 58 total blocks and 28 service aces.
McCoy, an outside hitter, led the Wolverines with 171 kills and 38 aces. She also had 61 total blocks on the year.
Thompson, a senior setter for the Bobcats, played in 73 of Ignacio’s 82 sets this season. She dished out 263 assists, recorded 126 digs and had 57 aces with an ace percentage of 21.2.
Durango High School’s trio of senior hitters earned first-team All-Southwestern League honors for the 2017 volleyball season.
Brett Rowland, Lana Razma and Ally Snow all earned first team recognition after helping guide the Demons to a 17-8 overall record and a 6-2 record in league play.
Fruita Monument’s Dana Thompson was named player of the year and Wildcats head coach Bob Richardson was named coach of the year for the league.
Joining the three Durango seniors on the first team were Montrose’s Gabi Brown and Katie Sherwood, and Fruita Monument’s Riley Snyder and Kenzie Wells.
Durango’s Millie O’Ketter and Taylor Wolf were named to the second team. Fruita Monument’s Truth Hafey, Grand Junction Central’s Ashley Markel, and Grand Junction’s Brek Smith and Lexi Wright landed on the second team as well.
Bayles and McCoy were first-team selections for the 3A Intermountain League. They were joined on the first team by Pagosa Springs’ Faith Ahlhardt, who was named the league’s player of the year, Centauri’s Ember Canty and Caroline Van Berkum, and Alamosa’s Lexi Ortega.
Bayfield senior Ashley Mottin landed on the second team with Pagosa Springs’ Morgan Lewis and Keena Murphy, Montezuma-Cortez’ Tyra Pinnecoose, and Centauri’s Kaitlyn Quinlan and Sheree Rodriguez.
Centauri’s Candace Shaw was named the league’s coach of the year after the Falcons went 23-2 on the season.
All-League information for the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League, which Ignacio competes in, was not available.
