GOCO awards grant to Durango Outdoor Understanding for Teachers Program

Recently, the Great Outdoors Colorado Board awarded a $6,800 grant to Colorado Parks and Wildlife for the Durango Outdoor Understanding for Teachers (Durango OUT) Field Trip Incentive Program. This project will create and support more K-12 field trip opportunities in Durango and the Southwest region.

The project supports outdoor education in an effort to instill an early fascination for place-based learning and the outdoors. Currently, finding funding can be an obstacle for schools interested in planning field trips.

The field trip incentive program will be open to K-12 teachers who participate in Durango OUT, CPW’s conservation-focused professional development institute. OUT-qualified teachers and their students will be connected with partnering science education field-trips, and GOCO funds will help defray the costs of fees and transportation. The program will cover the expenses for one field trip visit to an appropriate site in the 2019-2020 school year for each OUT teacher’s grade level.
