Spring-like weather could give way to cold and snowy conditions later tonight in Durango, but no snow accumulation is expected in town.
“The best chances are going to come in the late afternoon, early evening (Thursday),” said Norv Larson, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
Temperatures in town could drop to the lower 30s or upper 20s late Thursday, he said.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from noon Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday for Silverton, Rico and Hesperus.
The National Weather Service predicts blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Snow is more likely to accumulate above 7,500 feet in elevation, and the heaviest accumulations will be above 9,000 feet, Larson said. The mountains could see between 4 to 8 inches of snow.
Purgatory Resort is expected to receive between 3 to 6 inches, Larson said.
Friday is expected to be sunny with a high in the low 50s in Durango.
Another storm is expected to move into the area Saturday evening and could linger through Sunday.
“That next one certainly looks like it could be impactful as well,” Larson said.
