The opening reception of the two-man show, “Constant State of Change,” by landscape painter Stephen Day and Navajo jeweler Ray Tracey, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 12 at Sorrel Sky Gallery, 828 Main Ave., during Spring Gallery Walk. The show will continue throughout May.
Stephen Day was born in Wyoming, lives currently in the Southwest and is renowned for his plein-air paintings of local landscapes.
“I paint almost exclusively from life trying to capture the feeling and the mood of the subject before me,” says Day.
Ray Tracey is among the most recognized contemporary Navajo jewelers and is known for his rootedness in the Navajo jewelry tradition, but incorporates contemporary designs and techniques. Tracey’s inspirations come from many sources after decades of successful artistic production under his belt.
“As I have gotten older, life has become more dear to me. I am now more in tune with intangible sources for my inspiration,” says Tracey.
