Warrant issued for man accused of inappropriately touching two girls

Alleged incident occurred at Durango Community Recreation Center

A judge has issued an arrest warrant for a man suspected of two counts of unlawful sexual assault on a child.

Fabine Scott, 31, of Farmington is accused of touching two 10-year-old girls on the buttocks on June 1 at the Durango Community Recreation Center, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the two girls were playing in one of the pools when Scott sat next to them. The girls moved away from Scott but he followed them. One of the girls swam ahead of the other. As she looked around to find her friend, Scott grabbed her buttocks.

She left and told her friend what happened. Her friend said Scott had done the same to her three times while walking around inside one of the pools. The girls promptly left the area and began playing elsewhere in the center.

Police reviewed security footage, and the girls identified Scott as the one who touched them.

Durango Police called Scott at his listed phone number. He denied having touched anyone inappropriately while in one of the pools at the center. He said he lives out of his car in Cortez and has no fixed address. Three further attempts by police to contact him were unsuccessful, according to the arrest affidavit.

Scott possibly works at a construction company in Durango. He has a revoked driver’s license from New Mexico. Previous offenses include assault, child abuse, distribution of drugs, a DUI and resisting arrest, but no history of sexual assault.

If arrested, Scott will be held on a $10,000 bail, said Durango Police Cmdr. Ray Shupe.

Anyone with information about Scott’s whereabouts can call dispatch at 385-2900 or Crimestoppers at 247-1112.
