The Class 4A Durango High School girls soccer team defeated Class 3A Faith Christian 3-0 on Friday night in Arvada. DHS (3-3) led 1-0 at halftime and added a pair in the second to put away the Eagles (0-3).
“Overall, we played a lot better,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said. “The girls are getting more comfortable and becoming more of a team. We’re moving and playing together, and the ball is moving around the pitch a lot better than just individual work.”
Taylor Klone added one goal for the Demons. Chloe Taylor had two assists.
Emily Badgley, a freshman, made four saves in goal.
“She made two crucial saves,” Parker said. “She came out on a 50-50 ball and did an amazing job, and she saved another on a deflection where we were sure it would go over her head but she snagged it out of the air.”
DHS avoided poor weather on the Front Range during the game but had to deal with closed roads and an even longer bus ride to reach the stadium.
“Junior varsity and varsity both won after stepping out onto the field after a long bus ride,” Parker said. “Very proud of the way the girls played.”
DHS will stay on the road to face Pueblo West at noon Saturday. League play will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at rival Montrose.
The Miners went to work against the Bobcats Friday.
Telluride’s girls soccer team secured a 10-0 win at Ignacio. All 10 goals were scored by different players. Ignacio didn’t get a shot on goal. Ignacio goalkeeper Lanie Webb made 15 saves.
The Bobcats (0-2) will host Ridgway at 11 a.m. Saturday.
