50 years ago: “Durango Elks and their ladies had their annual New Year’s whoop-la, dancing and food and games for a huge crowd. And for those who wanted to sit quietly as the old year went away and the new year came in – there was the Kiva theater.”
25 years ago: “Ski areas in western Colorado reported being busy Christmas and New Year’s holidays, with Wolf Creek Ski Area breaking a skier-day record and Purgatory Ski Resort coming within 84 skiers of a new high.” Wolf Creek recorded 3,576 skiers Dec. 28. Purgatory logged 7,542 skiers Dec. 28.
