Bayfield High School ran away with a pair of top-five finishes last weekend at the Montezuma-Cortez Invitational.
The BHS boys finished third overall with 75 team points.
The BHS girls finished fourth overall with 63.5 points.
Montezuma-Cortez swept the meet: The boys track and field team posted 120.833 points to finish first, and the girls had 154.5 points for victory.
Navajo Prep finished runner-up in the boys meet with 87 points, while Ignacio High School (70) finished five points behind BHS for fourth. Grand County finished fifth in the 11-team boys meet.
Dolores (121) and Grand County (86) finished second and third in the girls meet, while Dove Creek (52) took fifth, and IHS (40.5) eighth in the 11-team girls meet.
Bayfield earned four first-place finishes in Cortez:
1. Eva-Lou Edwards, girls 3,200 meters, 11 minutes, 39.63 seconds.
1. Samantha Espinosa, girls shot put, 32 feet, 11.50 inches.
1. Michael Hawkins, boys shot put, 48-01.25.
1. Aubry Brown, boys discus, 123-02.
The BHS girls 4x800-meter relay team finished runner-up in 11:41.63, and the boys 4x100 relay finished third in 49.18.
Jessie Roukema and Micaela Knickerbocker finished 3-4 in the girls high jump; Nate Tate took third in the 400; TJ Pazell took third in the long jump; Pazell and Zane Westbrook finished 2-3 behind Hawkins in the shot put.
BHS will run Friday at the Aztec Invitational.
