I live on the Florida River on County Road 228. I recently found three large chokecherry trees on my property torn down and totally devoid of their fruit in just one night. Boy, I thought, that bear must’ve been really hungry.
Well, driving home from town later, Mama Bear and her two juvenile twins crossed the road in front of me coming from the direction of my place. Guess she’s been teaching the “kids” how to forage. Mystery solved!
It’s been one hungry mama helping her babies to gobble the goodies. Don’t know how long bears suckle their young, but it looks like school is already in full session for the young’uns.
Be aware; steer clear of Mrs. Bear! Don’t get close. Hell hath no fury like a mama bear with cubs if she thinks you or your dog pose a threat to her brood. Discretion is always the better part of valor when it comes to bears.
