City of Durango to host budget workshop and presentation

The city of Durango has started the 2021 budget planning process. The public is invited to learn about the budget and budget process during a virtual meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The agenda and meeting link are available at www.DurangoGov.org/finance. Interested citizens may bring ideas and suggestions to the meeting. Comments may also be submitted in advance by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 4 to CityManager@DurangoGov.org or mailed to City Manager’s Office, 949 E. 2nd Avenue, Durango, CO 81301.

The Interim City Manager and staff will consider public comments and suggestions during the budget process. The budget is typically adopted at a City Council meeting in December and goes into effect the first of the year. The presentation and workshop will cover these topics:

Introduction to the city’s budget, tough decisionsFinancial projections and understanding sales taxEfficiencies, innovations and partnershipsSteps towards best practicesOther possible operational innovations, efficiencies, or cost reductions to exploreIncreasing revenuesIdeas for potential new revenue sources for the cityThe meeting will be broadcast live on Durango Government Television and Facebook, Spectrum cable channels 191/981 or over-the-air on channel 10.1.
