Council approves zoning for new homes

10-home subdivision planned for Rim Drive
Bassett

The Durango City Council approved new zoning to allow a 10-home subdivision along Rim Drive across from Hillcrest Golf Course.

The project will now go through three more levels of review.

The subdivision near the Tierra Vista and Villas at Hillcrest was previously planned to accommodate 15 homes, but it was scaled back to 10 after an archaeological site was discovered, according to city documents.

Britt Bassett who spoke on behalf of the project thanked staff members for working with him after the surprise discovery of the archaeological site.

“I am glad it was an easy situation to work together to make this project happen,” Councilor Sweetie Marbury said.

The homes will share driveways to keep the cultural resources undisturbed.
