San Juan College visitor tests positive for COVID-19

A person on San Juan College’s main campus has tested positive for COVID-19.

Upon notification of the test, the college immediately began contact tracing and cleaning measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The person was on campus for a few hours Thursday and was notified late Thursday afternoon that they had tested positive for the coronavirus. The person practiced social distancing while on campus and wore a mask the entire time. As of Monday, the person had not been hospitalized, was self-isolating and was receiving treatment at home.

Before the college’s Phase 1 reopening June 8, safety protocols were put in place. All students, employees and visitors who come to campus and enter into buildings are required to stop at a checkpoint for a no-contact temperature check and complete a health condition questionnaire.

Additional protocols include: group size limitations, social distancing and sanitization processes. Masks also must be worn as required by New Mexico Public Health Orders.

Students, employees and the community’s health and safety remains the college’s top priority. The college encourages everyone to continue to use precautionary and preventive measures.
