Two power outages caused by high winds were reported about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
One outage was in the Animas Valley north of Durango, including the Hermosa area, according to the La Plata Electric Association outage map. It was impacting more than 500 customers, according to the map.
A second outage was south of U.S. Highway 160 west, in the Shenandoah and Trappers Crossing subdivisions. It also affected more than 500 customers, according to LPEA.
LPEA crews were checking for damages and working to restore power.
The outages were not part of the one planned for 1 a.m. Friday that will impact more than 12,000 customers in the city of Durango, the Florida Mesa and Lightner Creek area.
Tri-State Generation and Transmission, the primary power supplier to LPEA’s distribution system, will shut down its Bodo substation to safely remove a damaged piece of equipment. The outages is expected to be about two hours.
