Lachelt’s qualities benefit commission

As I grow older, I become more cognizant of how important it is to put our lives together in meaningful, thoughtful ways that allow for healthy relationships, service to community and self-care.

It is not usually politicians I notice as being models for life balance. However, Gwen Lachelt is a person I have known and admired for many years for her ability to do just that.

I did not know her as a student in Political Science at Fort Lewis, but I have heard stories.

I did know her when she first worked for the San Juan Citizens Alliance and worked to get a stop light installed at Elmore’s corner.

I knew her when she decided to start the Oil and Gas Accountability Project (OGAP) and when that group moved under Earth Justice. I knew her as she dived into understanding oil and gas production and regulation and fracking long before it was a national issue.

I have seen her facilitate small groups and organize big conferences. I have seen her work with adversaries as well as allies effectively and with respect.

I have seen her raise her two sons and help her aging mother.

I know that she knows how to listen. She is ethical and yet also thoughtful. It seems like it is people like Gwen Lachelt we need in government.

In this time where politics have come to symbolize vicious conflict, we need sane politics at the local level as a counter balance.

We know that Lachelt can strengthen our community based on consensus building, listening and ethical actions.

I hope you will join me in voting for Lachelt.
