Artist to teach acrylic painting for seniors

The Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., will feature six classes on acrylic painting from 9 a.m. to noon each Thursday from Aug. 18 to Sept. 29.

Instructor and artist Karen Harms has more than 30 years experience, and her work has been shown and collected internationally. The class will incorporate color theory, composition and multiple techniques. Students will be encouraged to explore their creative styles.

The class is $45 and supplies are $25. No experience is necessary. A minimum of six students are needed. Register and pay with Greta by Aug. 11 at 382-6428. No class will be held Sept. 15.

Friends of Durango library offer gift certificates

The Friends of Durango Public Library are now offering gift certificates that can be redeemed any time at the Friends’ Book Store or at one of the group’s book sales.

CDOT announces lane restrictions

The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced the several upcoming lane restrictions in Southwest Colorado:

U.S. Highway 160 eastbound and westbound wildlife crossing at Dry Creek, Bayfield (from milemarker 97 to 98): Lane closures and detours should be expected. Speeds will be reduced for wildlife fencing installation and shoulder widening. There is a 10-foot width restriction 24 hours per day through Aug. 31. For project information, call 828-2897.U.S. Highway 160 eastbound and westbound from west of Wolf Creek Pass summit to the east end of Wolf Creek Pass (from milemarker 165.9 to 174.15): From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday eastbound lanes will be alternating to westbound lanes at mileposts 165.9 to 170 for paving.
