Small plane crashes, catches fire near Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS – An investigation is underway after a small plane crashed and caught fire near Colorado Springs.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say the single-engine Cessna T210 with one person on board crashed about a mile south-southeast of the Meadow Lake Airport on Wednesday morning. KRDO-TV reports the fate of the pilot has not been released.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. No other information has been released.

Scott McNabb, who was near the scene of the crash, sent KRDO photos of the wreckage minutes after the plane went down. One showed the mangled aircraft on fire with a thick plume of black smoke rising into the air.
