In honor of Arbor Day, San Juan National Forest will give away up to 10 native ponderosa pine seedlings, on a first-come, first-served basis, on Friday, April 28, to each person who donates to the Plant A Tree Program.
Anyone who donates to the program is eligible to receive seedlings at agency offices in Durango, Dolores, Bayfield and Pagosa Springs.
Donations to the Plant A Tree Program help cover costs for the collection, storage and growing of native trees to reforest burned areas of the forest.
No minimum donation is required to receive trees.
For best survival, seedlings should be kept cool and be planted within the week after they are received. Instructions about how to plant and care for the trees will be provided.
For more information, call the San Juan National Forest at 247-4874.
