100 years ago: “The Rev. I. Linthicum, father of Mrs. Jasper Hayhurst, who is visiting his daughter, was pleasantly surprised. While calling at the home of Mrs. Brewer, a neighbor, he was greeted by a lady who presented him with a neat little gift, in the shape of a white handkerchief. His joy was not yet complete for he was soon presented with another gift, and soon he came to realize that all the people had come to celebrate his 83rd birthday.”

75 years ago: “Tex Ritter, famous singing western movie star and representative of the Monogram Pictures Studio of Hollywood, arrive in Durango to be here over the weekend as a guest of the Spanish Trails Fiesta.”

50 years ago: “The first perfect morning in several days greeted Gov. and Mrs. John Love and their daughter, Becky, as they boarded the William Jackson Palmer, the private car of Rio Grande-land, to make the trip to Silverton, the first event of their three-day visit.”

25 years ago: “The Ignacio School Board gave unanimous support to an AIDS curriculum for the school district and school officials plan to have the program in place by January 1989.”
