BHS wrestles tough in tough competition

Wolverines holding their own at the Moon Valley Tournament

Bayfield High School had good reason to drive south to the Moon Valley Tournament this weekend in Moon Valley, Ariz.

Competition.

And the Wolverines’ wrestlers are getting it in spades.

“We came down here for one reason: a lot of matches, a lot of tough matches,” BHS head coach Todd McMenimen said. “And that’s what we’ve been getting all day.”

Colter McMenimen went 4-0 with his tough competition Friday at 138 pounds, while first-year wrestler Ryan Nava went 3-1 at 120 pounds, his only loss to a returning state champion.

Taylor Winch went 2-2 at 132 pounds.

Clay Crawford (125) and Cody Speece (113) each had one win apiece.

“I’m real pleased with what we’ve done so far,” coach McMenimen said.
