DHS “wrestled tough.”

“It’s a big tournament,” Durango High School wrestling head coach John Gurule said. “It’s the toughest tournament, and that’s what we expected.”

Patrick Cunnion and Matthew Lavengood were the last two Demons standing Day 1 of the prestigious Warrior Classic on Friday in Grand Junction.

Cunnion, at 182 pounds, is 2-1 with a 7-5 loss against Ty Taylor of Fruita Monument, the No. 1 seed in the Warrior’s weight class.

Lavengood, at 120 pounds, is 2-1 with a 7-4 loss against Aaron Carrera of Pueblo East.

Both juniors will wrestleback Saturday for attempts at a podium finish.
