Letters: The Greatest Generation showed the way

I am eternally grateful to the Americans of the World War II era, the Greatest Generation.

They did not protest giving up their rights to travel afar because of gas rationing.

Nor did they protest not making birthday cakes because of food rationing.

They sacrificed individual conveniences daily.

My folks and other children of their era even gave their weekly allowances to the victory stamps, which helped the war effort.

America fought as one to do whatever it could to defeat the enemy.

When I asked my mother about people feeling deprived, she said people didn’t whine about their individual rights being hampered because America and our core values were more important than any individual.

She said they knew that united we succeed, divided we fail.
