Free parking smart cards to be given away

Smart cards meters have been installed throughout downtown.

The city of Durango, downtown merchants and the Business Improvement District are going to distribute free parking smart cards with two goals in mind.

One goal is to bring shoppers downtown, and the other is to familiarize the public with the smart cards.

The operation begins Monday.

The cards are similar to a debit card and work in all meters in the downtown business district, including meters that don’t accept credit cards.

There will be 80 smart cards, each with $20 credit, to be distributed by a drawing.

Drawings will be held at participating businesses on Dec. 8. Enrollment, as many times as one wishes, can be done by visiting participating business establishments.

Winners can keep the card, which ordinarily costs $10.
