The annual meeting is free and open to all LPEA members. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with the business meeting starting at 10:30 a.m. A complimentary luncheon follows the business meeting.

Aliff is president of the Reston, Virginia-based GE Aliff Group, the advisory company he founded in June 2015 to serve the energy and resources industry. For nearly 40 years prior, he served with Deloitte, most recently as vice chairman and senior partner.

Other presentations will include reports from CEO Michael Dreyspring, board President Michael Rendon, Treasurer Karen Barger, attorney Barry Spear, CREA representative Jeff Berman and Tri-State Generation and Transmission representative Joe Wheeling. There will be a question-and-answer period.

Election results are expected to be announced prior to the complimentary lunch. In accordance with LPEA’s bylaws, one seat in each of LPEA’s four districts comes up for election annually. This year in District 3 (city of Durango), Doug Lyon is the only nominee, thus the election in that district is canceled and Lyon will assume the seat of retiring incumbent Michael Rendon.

District 1 (Archuleta County) candidates are Mike Alley, incumbent Mark Garcia, and Calum McNeil. District 2 (south and west La Plata County) candidates are Dan Huntington and Lori Schell. District 4 (north and east La Plata County) candidates are John Beebe, Ron Bishop and incumbent Jack D. Turner.

Ballots must be received by 4 p.m. May 6 at the La Plata County Clerk’s office (Bodo Industrial Park), at LPEA’s offices in Durango or Pagosa Springs, the La Plata County Administration office in downtown Durango or Bayfield Town Hall. Members can also vote at the annual meeting before 10:30 a.m.

Learn about online business directory

The Durango Business Improvement District will host two open houses – from 2 to 4 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. May 3 – to answer questions and provide information about BID’s upcoming online Business Directory, scheduled for launch Memorial Day weekend.

The BID Business Directory is being developed as a comprehensive, searchable online database that will feature not only a business’ name, location and contact information, but also a logo, photos and sample merchandise, at the discretion of the business itself. The service is offered free to BID constituents. The Business Improvement District includes all of downtown, East Second Avenue, Camino del Rio and north Main Avenue from 14th Street to the city limits.

Businesses can independently go online at www.downtowndurango.org/downtown-durango-businesses to input and update their information at any time. The page also includes additional FAQs about the directory as well as a link to a “sample” directory listing.

The BID Business Directory open houses will be held at BID’s office, 850½ Main Ave., Suite 2. For more information, contact Clegg at 375-5067.
