The Community Foundation to offer board training series

The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado has opened registration for two comprehensive series on nonprofit board best practices; one training is for board members and one training series is for staff.

For nonprofit board members, the three-part training series is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 9, 23 and Nov. 6 in the Lightner Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. Attendees will review topics such as board expectations and rigor, board evaluation, board relationships, productive meetings and quality decision-making. Registration for the full series is $60.

For nonprofit staff, a three-hour training is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 and a one-hour follow-up roundtable is scheduled from 8 to 9 a.m. Nov. 6 in the Lightner Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. The staff trainings will address board recruitment and retention, on-boarding and orientation, retreats and evaluation. Registration for the staff training is $30.

The trainings will be facilitated by Illene Roggensack of Third Sector Innovations and Stacy Beaugh of Strategic by Nature. Roggensack has spent more than three decades in nonprofit management as an executive director, fundraising director, board member, volunteer and consultant. Beaugh has been a nonprofit leader for 15 years and is an alum of the Center for Creative Leadership Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program.
