100 years ago: “The bootlegging cases were dismissed on account of the lack of evidence. It was a pitiful sight to see some of our active residents so painfully afflicted with Mi-No-Records. (I don’t remember everything). Every witness the prosecution called was afflicted with the same trouble.”
75 years ago: “Miss Janell Mitchell, graduate of Durango High School, was one of 22 freshmen listed on the Colorado Women’s college honor list for the first semester which ended Jan. 27. In order to have a rating on the honor list the students must have maintained grades of A or B.”
50 years ago: “More than 30 mothers converged on the School District 9-R board of education, applying pressure to have some form of kindergarten program established in the district. ... If a kindergarten program was initiated requiring additional classrooms, taxpaying electors in the district would have to vote on a bond issue to fund the program.”
25 years ago: “The Adolph Coors Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Great Southwest Council to establish a Scout District in Southwest Colorado. The grant totals $54,000 that will be staggered over four years. The new district has been named the Mesa Verde District by area volunteers. It currently has more than 40 Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs that serve more than 800 youth members.”
