Michael: Cloud seeding chemistry cool in the lab, not in our skies

My love of snow compelled me to attend “Snow 101 - public notice permitting weather modification public hearing” on Sept. 26 in Silverthorne. Citizens and tourists, we are being bombarded with silver iodide nano-particles (AgI np) aka cloud-seeding. “Scrubber-free heavy metal pesticide incinerators” located up-wind of “target areas”. “Water conservation” programs for the Vail/ Upper Arkansas, the Gunnison Basin, the Grand Mesa, the San Juan and Dolores totaling nearly a hundred manual and remotely operated flare sites “serving” the Colorado rockies to “fill” our slopes and reservoirs.

Ski resorts, Colorado state and out-of-state water entities are funding AgI np deposited on wilderness, ranches, backyards and humans. Industrial snow is falling in Colorado, “permitted” for another 5 years… Joe Busto, of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, please explain public hearing lack of notification to Eagle county residents. I was the only member of the public present.

Incinerators fired Nov. 1 beginning seeding season. The reactions taking place in the sky, AgI, exposed to sunlight turns bluish grey, “modified” clouds are the result of exothermic reactions taking place between propane-fired acetone bath AgI-np’s contacting H20, the resulting super-cooled droplet “explosions” and billions of collisions taking place.

Cool in a lab, not in our sky. The combined target area encompasses nearly half the state with current plans to dramatically increase the scope over the next decade by diverting tax dollars. The “cost” is shared by both private and public entities. Lift tickets and tax dollars fund the programs.

The true cost to humans and our environment is not known. A simple review of the msds for AgI reveals the true nature of this metallic compound “toxic to aquatic life.” AgI np targets the brain, testes and liver crossing the blood-brain barrier traveling throughout the body with “no information available” on teratogenic effects? Know the snow!
