Seven days later, same result

DHS volleyball seniors lead the charge against Grand Junction

One week later and in a different gymnasium, the result was the same for the Durango High School volleyball team.

The DHS Demons beat Grand Junction 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-15) on Friday night. It was the third consecutive win for the Demons (13-7, 6-2 Southwestern League).

“We were definitely focused on just playing our game and getting better heading into the final stretch,” DHS head coach Colleen Keresey said. “We came out strong and ready to play.”

Friday night’s game was the first of senior weekend for the Demons, who will host Montrose at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

DHS senior setter Logan Clark had 27 assists and four aces. Senior defensive specialist Hailey Warren had 10 digs and two aces, senior libero Sarah Lawton had 17 digs and three aces, and senior middle blocker Laura Lieb had seven kills.

Montrose (15-3, 9-0 SWL) wrapped up the league title with a 3-2 win at Montezuma-Cortez after the Indians dropped the first two sets. Still, the Demons are motivated to host Montrose, even without a league title in the balance. DHS will finish second in the league.

“We talked about whether Montrose won (Friday) or not and if they clinched the title or not, we still want to come out and play our best volleyball,” Keresey said. “We think if we do that, we will take care of business.”
