100 years ago: “Prin. G.F. Snyder of the Fort Lewis School was a visitor in the city, in order to replenish his stock at home.”

75 years ago: “Starting off with a bang of a gavel and the grave voice of the judge saying sternly, ‘You’re guilty! What are you charged with?’ The first ‘offender’ was brought before the Kangaroo Court. The intersection of Main Avenue and 8th Street was thronged with hundreds of people who come out to witness the proceedings.”

50 years ago: The Rocket, three miles south on U.S. Highway 550-160, was showing the “The Manchurian Candidate” starring Frank Sinatra and Janet Leigh.

25 years ago: “The Bayfield man who is accused in the August 1987 robbery of the Pine River Valley Bank and in the April 3 holdup of the bank president and his family at their Bayfield home, entered pleas of not guilty by reason of insanity and not guilty by reason of impaired judgment.”
