Bayfield Yard Sale Day set for June 6
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Yard Sale Day on Saturday, June 6.
Pine River Valley Bank in Bayfield is selling spaces in its parking lot for $10 per space. See Arrin or Sarah at the bank to book a space.
The cost to be on this year's map is $5 before Friday, May 29, and $10 after that.
The final deadline to be on the map is 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 3. The map will be published in the Friday, June 5 edition of the Pine River Times.
Map forms can be picked up and returned at the Billy Goat Saloon, Salon del Sol, and Bayfield Chiropractic in Bayfield. For more information, call 884-2331.
Club holding yard sales
The Ignacio Elementary Explorers Club will host its annual yard sale extravaganza from 8:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday. More than 10 booths are lined up for the event. The sale is in the current Ignacio High School (old elementary) parking lot downtown.
Social worker teaching life review skills to seniors
Free training is available for senior citizens and their families to learn the power of reminiscing.
"Reminiscence: Finding Meaning in Memories" will be taught from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 6 and 13 at Evening's Porch Assisted Living.
Linda Carter, an elder care social worker, will teach participants how to visit with elder family members, unlock family stories, and assist seniors to review their life history.
Registration is required by calling Erin at Evening's Porch at 884-0101. The home is located at 42811 U.S. Highway 160 east of Bayfield.
Comp plan meeting is May 7
The next County Planning Commission meeting to update the 2001 comprehensive plan will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the courthouse. Planning commissioners are currently working on agriculture-related issues.
Most of the work happens between meetings. Planning commissioners and interested citizens may submit ideas by the middle of the month. Then planning staff work those into a draft for discussion at the next meeting on the first Thursday of the month.

National Day of Prayer in Ignacio
Ignacio area churches will observe the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. at Ignacio Community Church, 400 Browning Avenue. All are welcome.
Ignacio carnival is May 11
The Ignacio School District High Expectations Committee's fourth annual carnival will be on Monday, May 11, at the middle school. Carnival activities and food will be available from 5 to 7 p.m.
Activities will include a cupcake walk, ring toss, bouncy house, fish pond, bean bag toss, bingo, putting green, knowledge bowl, sno-cones, face painting, and more. Food will include Frito pie, corndogs, nachos, pretzels, popcorn, pickles, and drinks.
Tickets for carnival activities are 25¢ each or five for $1. Food tickets are $1. All proceeds will go toward the Veterans' Dinner in November for the community to enjoy a free meal.
School attendance awards will be announced at 6:45 p.m. in the commons area.
County commissioner in Bayfield Thursday
La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westendorff will hold office hours for the general public to meet with her from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 7 at the Pine River Library Conference Room in Bayfield. Commissioner Westendorff appreciates the feedback she has received from people in the Bayfield area during her previous office hours, and is looking forward to meeting with Bayfield area residents again this month about their interests and concerns. Cemetery cleanup to start May 11
Pine River Cemetery District staffers will start their annual spring clean up the week of May 11. All flowers and decorations will be picked up and disposed of. Any items families wish to keep need to be picked up before then. New flowers and decorations should not be placed on grave locations until after the spring clean, up as well. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our cemetery clean and beautiful.
AJ's Greenhouse holding spring celebration
AJ's Greenhouse annual seasonal opening celebration is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2. A free lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with live music, activities and giveaways.

Dandelion festival tomorrow in Durango
The Dandelion Festival, a free event in honor of spring and organic land stewardship in Durango, will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. on May 2 in Rotary Park. There will be a May pole dance, local music, local food and beverages, kids activities, booths and sustainable education.
