Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include Observing Space from Earth and Smartphone Photography Workshop.

The Powerhouse Science Center will host a virtual Observing Space from Earth event from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

This free, virtual event features Fort Lewis College professors Callie Cole and Charles Hakes, who will discuss their active space research and interstellar discoveries. FLC President Tom Stritikus will moderate the discussion and live Q&A after the event.

The Smartphone Photography Workshop will be hosted from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Painted Turtle Studio & Gallery, 200 W. Grand Ave., in Mancos.

Professional photographer Jen Magnuson will guide participants on a photo walk of downtown Mancos while sharing the secrets professional photographers use when shooting with a smartphone. At the studio, participants will learn to edit phone images using a free photo editing app.
