Thank you for the opportunity to serve

Having recently finished my four-year term on the Durango 9-R School Board, I thank you, my constituents, for letting me serve. I hope, in your assessment, I’ve done a respectable job.

Rest assured that I leave the board in the good hands of fair-minded and committed school board members. The board’s role is to provide vision and oversight, but the important work is done primarily by our teachers, with staff and administrators positioned to support them.

Having been engaged with most aspects of the district and observed each of our schools, I leave my position confident in the professionalism, competency, and dedication to our students throughout this district at every level.

I would be remiss if I did not thank you taxpayers, especially those of you who have no children in our schools, for your confidence and support for public education shown when you agree to increase your taxes in order to maintain our educational standards and to improve teachers’ salaries.

Please remember, public schools belong to the public, not the board of education. Your representatives on the board work for you. When you have praise, questions or concerns, talk with them by email or by attending the public participation portion of each school board meeting. Go to durangoschools.org for the schedule.

Also, consider running for the board or serving in another advisory position. The work is remarkably rewarding. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
