The owner of a rafting company who was found dead last month died from an enlarged heart with a secondary diagnosis of micronodular cirrhosis of the liver, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday.
Tom O’Keeffe, 54, was last seen alive on Christmas Eve. He was found dead Jan. 3 inside his home, and an autopsy was conducted Jan. 4 at Hood Mortuary.
According to the autopsy, O’Keeffe had a blood-alcohol level of 0.208 at the time of death.
O’Keeffe was the owner of Durango Rafting Co.
La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith said carbon monoxide poisoning was also examined as a possible cause because a dog that was “very healthy” and “well taken care of” was also found dead at O’Keeffe’s residence in Durango.
Smith said Tuesday she is unsure what caused the dog’s death. The dog was out of food, but it had water and it appeared to be well-nourished, she said.
