Letters: We should be afraid of wolves

As Gov. Jared Polis welcomes wolves into Colorado, it doesn’t matter that they likely (but unconfirmed) killed a rancher’s cow.

That cow is a big deal to the livelihood of that farmer.

Wolves decimate other wildlife.

In Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the moose population has dropped from 3,000 to 500 since the wolf was introduced.

With the proliferation of mountain lions, there are already fewer elk in the high country. With the addition of wolves, this could endanger the elk population in the future.

Wolves can be carriers of Grey Wolf Disease that can be transferred to humans or pets and is often fatal. The World Health Organization estimates over a million people a year are infected with Hydatid (Grey Wolf Disease).

Those non-native wolves must eat. How soon until the wolves kill a hiker or a child? Perhaps the hiker will be lucky and the wolves will just get their beloved pet.

It doesn’t matter until it’s your child, your dog or your livestock.
