We must drive a stake into the GOP and begin from scratch. A Joe Biden win may force some introspection among Republican Party operatives. It may even force the party to reinvent itself as a responsible partner in saving and nurturing our fragile experiment in democracy.
The presidential historian Michael Beschloss warned that re-electing Trump could bring an end to our democracy. Throughout history, empires have come and gone. We do not have an empire but we are on the path toward authoritarianism, a despotic system that has never coexisted with a democracy.
