If you’re traveling over the high country north of Durango on Monday, be aware of potentially snowy conditions.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction expects snow to start falling around 7 a.m. Monday, with the storm starting to weaken around noon, said meteorologist Tom Renwick.
In all, Coal Bank, Molas and Red Mountain passes could see anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of snowfall. Renwick said the best chance for snow to stick to roads is in the morning hours.
“In the morning, you definitely want to watch out,” he said.
The storm is the result of a cold front moving into the region. Most snowfall will occur in northern Colorado, where as much as 14 inches are expected along the Interstate 70 corridor.
The cold front will last only a short amount of time in Southwest Colorado, Renwick said. On Tuesday, the wind will come from the south and bring warm, sunny days back to the region.
“Looks like we’re getting one quick shot of winter and then back to fall,” he said.
