City Council mandates commitment to address climate change

Compact of Colorado Communities resolution passes unanimously
Durango City Hall, 949 East Second Ave.

The Durango City Council unanimously passed a resolution that requires elected officials and city staff to participate in, and adhere to the criteria of, the Compact of Colorado Communities.

The commitment mandates involvement in climate action planning and training activities, and collaboration with other local governments in the state to address climate change and grow economies. The focus is to build capacity in critical decision-making roles through activities that enable Compact of Colorado members to advance climate action-planning at the local level.

The city will also address sustainability through the 2015 Sustainability Action Plan for Internal Operations, a 3-STAR designation in 2017 and the use of the STAR framework to assess sustainability in the community.
