Health-career camp held next week at FLC

Twenty-five students from around Colorado are scheduled to spend three days at a health-career camp next week to help them decide if the field is right for them and, if so, what specialized area they prefer.

The camp will be held at Fort Lewis College on Wednesday through Friday.

Participants will get a hands-on opportunity to learn what people do in general medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine and as an emergency medical technician.

The students will visit any of 16 stations where they can learn about anatomy, vital signs, behavioral health, wound care, imaging and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

They’ll have a chance to talk to health-care professionals one-on-one, tour Mercy Regional Medical Center and the Durango Fire Protection District and shadow health-care professionals at work.
