The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Bixby Electric have begun work to upgrade 19 intersections in the city of Durango.
Upgrades will be performed at nine intersections on U.S. Highway 160, eight on U.S. Highway 550 and two on Colorado Highway 3.
Improvements will include new traffic sensors, traffic cameras for traffic surveillance, upgrades to traffic signals and telemetry improvements to the Intelligent Traffic System to coordinate the traffic signals along the highways.
The project will also include signage. More than 100 signs will be added, adjusted or replaced to clarify traffic flow and increase awareness of pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
The project, which is scheduled to continue through July, will begin on Highway 160, proceed to Highway 3 and then move to Highway 550.
Daytime working hours will be 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Overnight work will take place Sunday to Thursday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Highway 550 and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Highway 160.
