100 years ago: “‘Scotty’ Monteith spent all day in town hunting for help to put up hay on his Griffith ranch. He has his hay on the ground and can’t get any help. He went home last night to put his hay up himself.”
75 years ago: “Displayed in front of Gardenswartz was the weeks prize catch, a 5½ pound rainbow caught on an aeroplane spinner at Electra Lake by Orville Aken.”
50 years ago: “Fanned by a brisk early morning breeze, the Red Barn, K.K. Moore’s barbecue enterprise north of Durango on U.S. 550, was destroyed by a fire. ... The restaurant, for which Moore gained widespread publicity by daily racing the returning Silverton train on horseback, was opened in a converted dairy barn, a landmark in itself, on Dec. 6, 1958.”
25 years ago: BAYFIELD – “A new 50,000-gallon municipal water tank has been added to Bayfield’s water system, and officials say the tank will boost this town’s water capacity to more than twice the amount needed to serve the current population.”
