Greg Sparks will speak to a virtual meeting of Rotary Club of Durango about Animas River water quality at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Sparks will discuss issues surrounding the acid drainage and dissolved metals loading in the Animas River as the result of historic metals mining in the Silverton area, as well as potential short- and long-term solutions to mitigation.
Sparks is ,managing director-metals for the John T. Boyd Co., a firm of mining and geological consultants.
