New owner expands pet salon in Bayfield

Karista Fogarty has remodeled and renamed Pawsh, the pet supply and grooming store on Mill Street. She's shown here with her three dogs.

If you think downtown Bayfield has gone to the dogs..you're right.

One reason for that is Pawsh Pet Salon and Boutique at 64 W. Mill St., which new owner Karista Fogarty has remodeled and expanded.

"I've always owned lots of animals," said Fogarty, who recently moved to Bayfield from Corrales, N.M. with her husband and daughter. She has 16 years of experience in grooming dogs and is a certified master groomer by the International Professional Groomers Association.

In addition to grooming, Pawsh has pet food and lots of supplies, and also can special order items for pet lovers. Pawsh is one of the sponsors of the Four Corners Pet Expo, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

One advantage of owning a pet supply store? Fogarty gets to bring her dogs to work. They are Loki, a samoyed; Asia, a standard poodle; and Tres, a coton de tulear, a small breed from Madagascar. She has shown Loki - he's a grand champion - and also works with him in herding instinct and barn hunting activities.

Pawsh is open from 8:30 to 5 on weekdays and 8:30 to 3 on Saturdays. The store can be reached at 884-2037.
