BHS alums, locals celebrating big game

Along with lots of folks coming home to Bayfield this weekend for Thanksgiving, plenty will be at Wolverine Country Stadium on Saturday for the 2A state football championship game against La Junta.

There are events for local fans and visitors before the big game, as well.

On Friday night, there is a tailgate pre-party starting at 7 p.m. at the Billy Goat Saloon. Attendees who tell the bartender on duty "Go Wolverines" will be entered to win prizes all night.

On Saturday, the Bayfield Education Foundation will distribute purple and gold beads to all BHS alumni. The foundation also will have a group photo for all alumni to go on a new BHS alum Facebook page. Alums are encouraged to wear their lettermen jackets and sweaters. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The foundation also is running the concession stand at the game, featuring hot dogs, nachos, hot cocoa and coffee.

Before the game, Wolverine spirit banners will be distributed at the stadium. They also can be picked up Friday at the Pine River Times offices, and they will be distributed at local Bayfield businesses that day as well. The banners are sponsored by Derailed Pour House in Durango and are being printed by the Pine River Times and Durango Herald. The semi-final banners were sponsored by Southwest Ag.
