Workers begin taking down building on Camino

Site partially burned down last month

The building at 1111 Camino del Rio was mostly reduced to rubble on Saturday.

Several curious people gathered to watch and film the destruction of the highly visible building.

The vacant building partially burned down in late May, but the cause is still unknown and the fire remains under investigation.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. The building was scheduled to be demolished to make way for a new hotel.

Along with a new building, the Animas River Trail will be extended an new median on Main Avenue will be built to control traffic.
