Green chile fills Ignacio

The second annual Ignacio Green Chile Festival filled Shoshone Park Saturday with chile, salsa, kids' games and a cornhole tournament.

In an area where green chile and salsa are taken seriously, Heath Rowe with Candelaria Spices won the people's choice award and took second place in the green chile competition, behind Carlos Lerma.

First place in salsa was awarded to the Patio Restaurant. Second place went to Stacey Kremer with Two Rivers Cafe and Susan Halkin of the Salsa Queen won the people's choice award.

Mike and Brian Wright roasted their green chile, harvested just before the festival at their farm in Allison.

The event featured two corn hole tournaments. In the first tourney, first place went to Stan and Kayla Patterson, second to Ryan Patterson and Lionel Florez, and third to Camille DuPont and Jordan Larsen.

In the second tournament, Pedro and Rose Vigil took first place, followed by Terence and Sunshine Whyte.

The event was sponsored by Farmers Fresh Market, the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Paco Glass, Sky Ute Casino, Ignacio Community Library and the Town of Ignacio.
