Weed-abatement spraying through June

The city of Durango’s weed-abatement spraying will commence today and continue through June 30, 2016. The areas to be sprayed are the Animas River Trail system, city trails in Three Springs, Three Springs open space, guardrails along Roosa Avenue, guardrails along North College Drive, guardrails along Santa Rita Drive, Chapman Hill, Old Landfill at Holly and 31st Street, intersection of U.S. Highway 550 and Highway 160 and open space between Hillcrest and Skyridge subdivisions.

Tres Mesa will spray for noxious weeds. The herbicides that will be used are called Cornerstone, Plateau, and Perspective. The weed control is repeatedly tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, and Tres Mesa is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

Fiber, craft group will meet in Bayfield

Local crafters interested in socializing and working on projects can now attend monthly meetings with the Los Pinos Alliance Fiber and Craft Guild. The group meets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month at the Pine River Library in Bayfield. The next meeting will be June 11.

Whether you are a knitter, fiber artist, beader, paper crafter, or jewelry maker, the group is open to all. For more information on The Los Pinos Alliance Fiber and Craft Guild contact Linda Smith at 884-0502.

Horse center offers therapeutic riding

Medicine Horse Center will offer classes for individuals with special needs at their Riversong Ranch facility in Durango. Classes start the week of July 11. Classes will be on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings.

Medicine Horse Center programs cannot exist without the hard work and dedication of volunteers, who function as horse leaders, sidewalkers, barn help, mentors, and in fundraising support. Learn the hare pose at Pine River Library

Pine River Library in Bayfield is offering a series of fitness-related classes for adults through summer. The first event will be a free yoga class from 6-7 p.m. June 16. The class is open to participants of all experience levels and will be taught by local yoga teacher Colleen Theobald. This is a great opportunity to try yoga for the first time.

Learn computer security in Bayfield

John Leinberger from Office Depot will be teaching Computer Security Basics at Pine River Library in Bayfield from 6-7 p.m. June 14. He’ll be discussing the steps you can take to prevent these threats as well as what to do if you think your computer has been hacked. Learn the facts and help keep your digital world safe.
